DMCA Policy

Last updated: August 20, 2026

Knowl respects the intellectual property rights of others. To file a notice under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. §512), send the following to our designated agent at 140sm4n@gmail.com:

  1. A physical or electronic signature of the person authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.
  2. Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed, or, if multiple works covered by a single notification, a representative list.
  3. Identification of the material claimed to be infringing, with enough detail to locate it (a URL or Knowl content id).
  4. Your mailing address, telephone number, and email address.
  5. A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
  6. A statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the notification is accurate and that you are authorized to act on the copyright owner's behalf.

You can also use the built-in "Report a takedown" form inside the app, which submits the same information to our agent.

What happens next

Upon a compliant notice we act expeditiously to remove or disable access to the material and notify the affected user. The affected user may file a counter-notification under 17 U.S.C. §512(g)(3); we will restore material within 10–14 business days unless the copyright owner then files a court action.

Repeat infringer policy

In accordance with 17 U.S.C. §512(i), Knowl will, in appropriate circumstances, terminate the accounts of users who are repeat infringers of copyright. We track verified DMCA notifications by account; an account with three or more validated notices, or that deliberately re-lists removed material, will be permanently suspended.
